Dr. Jerry Mofokeng-Makhetha

Dr. Jerry is a Soweto-born icon of theatre and film, and now published author and public speaker. He brings depth and breadth to all he touches. His vast experience and his training find expression in his professional practice.

His cabinet boasts 3 Lifetime Achievement Awards – Golden Horn, African Film Legend and King Moshoeshoe Film Festival.

He holds a BA in Dramatic Arts from Wits University. An MFA from Columbia University in New York and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the Free State.

Whilst he is known and respected for his work as an actor and speaker, 2024 introduces him as a Film and TV Drama Director.

Writing
It was in 2014 at the age of 58 that Jerry found out who his biological father was. That journey of identity and discovery culminated in the publication of his book I Am A Man. He later got the book translated into Sesotho – Nna Ke Monna.
This book has let his voice heard on different media and platforms speaking passionately on the subject of Manhood & masculinity across the generations and races. Social formations, religious organizations, gender groupings, government and the private sector are always inviting him to address them.

Between the years 1960 and 1966 Jerry lived in Lesotho. The history, language and culture of that nation was embedded in him and came through in his theatrical writings:
Motsuane (An adaptation).
Mpolelle The folktales of Basotho and Tshola’s music
My Father’s Daughter The historical episode of Qomatsi – The state of emergency in Lesotho.
Grandma’s Song The lives of Prophet Mantsopa and King Moshoeshoe-1.
