"Mpho Ngoepe is a professor and Executive Director of Library and Information Services at the University of South Africa (Unisa). He was previously the director of the school of arts and head of Information Science at the same institution. He worked for several organisations, including the National Archives of South Africa, United Nations Children Fund, the Auditor-General of South Africa, Trans-Caledon Tunnel Authority, Department of Provincial and Local Government, Cape Town Archives Repository, Bloemfontein Legal Deposit, Technikon Northern Gauteng, Randburg Openbare Biblioteek, and ULIS Library Servcies. His research interests include libraries, archives, records management, authentication, oral history, literature, and archival theories. Ngoepe is a C2 NRF rated researcher (2022-2027).
He was the director of Team Africa for the multi-national, interdisciplinary research project exploring issues concerning digital records called the International Research on Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems (InterPARES Trust) (2013-2018). He is the 2004 IVAISLIP/SABINET Information Officer of the year. In 2007 he was recognized by the South African Human Rights Commission and the Open Democracy Advice Center for implementation of the Promotion of Access to Information Act at the Auditor-General South Africa. He is the 2015 Unisa Information Science alumnus of the year. In 2020, he was awarded a Chancellor’s Prize for Excellence in Research, a coveted bi-annual prize that is given to outstanding and deserving active UNISA researchers."
